Father Dan and Diane Testa, our current music director, have enjoyed working with each other since the time it was announced Father would be coming to SLG. After the staff calendar meeting on Tuesday, July 7, Diane decided to step down as additional responsibilities for the music director would interfere with Diane’s commitments elsewhere. Diane has agreed to assist in hiring her replacement.

That said, St. Leo the Great (SLG) is seeking a talented and faith-filled full-time Music Director to lead and enhance the parish and school liturgical music ministry.

The Music Director is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing all aspects of the parish and school's music program, fostering active participation in the liturgy through sacred music.

Primary Responsibilities

• Select and prepare music for all weekend and major liturgical celebrations.
• Direct and rehearse a large Adult Choir and a large Children's Choir on a weekly basis (summer excluded).
• Conduct rehearsals for cantors and coordinate cantor scheduling.
• Recruit and schedule outside musicians as needed for special liturgies and parish events.
• Provide music for weekly school Masses and rehearsals, para-liturgies, and prayer services.
• Plan and coordinate music for all Holy Days of Obligation and Ash Wednesday 
• Prepare music for the Christmas season, including:
  • Approximately Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Masses
  • Children's Christmas Mass
• Coordinate music for Holy Week:
  • Palm Sunday
  • Holy Thursday
  • Good Friday
  • Easter Vigil
  • Easter Sunday Masses
• Coordinate music for parish sacramental celebrations, including:
  • Three First Holy Communion Masses
  • Two Confirmations
  • Two First Penance Services
  • Rehearsals for same
• Meet with engaged couples to assist in planning wedding music and coordinate music for weddings.
• Coordinate music and musicians for parish funerals.
• Maintain parish musical instruments and sound (PA) system.
• Submit copyright reporting and licensing information as required.
• Prepare the annual parish music calendar.
• Provide weekly music schedules to the parish videographer/livestream coordinator.
• Organize and direct additional musical events, such as a Christmas concert, as appropriate.

Qualifications

• Practicing Catholic with a thorough understanding of the Catholic Mass and sacred music preferred.
• Degree in Music, Sacred Music, Liturgical Music, or a related field preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
• Proficiency in organ and/or piano accompaniment.
• Experience directing adult and children's choirs.
• Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with clergy, parish staff, school faculty, volunteers, and musicians.

Salary: Commensurate with education and experience.
