How Does the Game of Spoons Relate to the Advent Season?
In both the season of advent and the spoons game, the number four is significant.
The season of advent lasts for four Sundays.
In "spoons," a player must have four of a kind in order to get a spoon and continue on to the next
round.
In both events, it is easy to lose sight of the greater purpose.
Advent means "coming" which is signifying the birth of Jesus and his return.
In the game of spoons, people are so focused on getting a spoon that they don't bother actually
looking for four of a kind.
During advent, people seem to care less about celebrating Jesus than they do about getting gifts.
In this way, they are both similar because people tend to lose sight of what is really important.
___
| In the game of spoons you have 4 cards, and there are 4 weeks in Advent. ___ I think the game of spoons relates to Advent because of all the unnecessary chaos. In this time of year, people are frantic and dodge what it is really supposed to be about. It was a lot like the chaotic spoons game we played. People were yelling and there was a bit of cheating. Most of all, everyone is not focusing on the real reason we are doing it, to have fun. ___ I think that spoons is like Advent because the game moves really fast and it makes me think of all the rushing around that happens before Christmas. If you want to win at spoons you need to not let yourself get distracted. Its kind of the same with Christmas-its not about all of the "stuff" it is about waiting for Jesus to be born. ___ Well there are 4 weeks in advent and 4 cards in the game. The four weeks of advent are Hope, Preparation, Joy and love. We “hope to get four of a kind”. We “wait our turn to pass card”. We have “ joy playing” and We “ love being with our friends”. ___ I think that Advent is like the game spoons because there are four weeks in Advent and you need to get 4 cards in spoons. Just like the time before Christmas, spoons moves really fast and you have to work hard to make sure you stay focused on the prize (Jesus birthday and winning the game) ___ |
The game of spoons and the season of Advent are very alike.
For one, there are four weeks in Advent and one must find
a four of a kind in order to pick up a spoon.
Also, they are alike because everyone is anxiously
waiting for the four of a kind, just like we are anxiously
waiting for Jesus' birth.
__
In the game of spoons, the object of the game
is to not be left without a spoon.
During the season of Advent,
the object is to not be left without the spirit of what
Christmas is all about.
___
In the game of spoons, players get all caught up
with trying to get 4 of a kind and loose sight of
what is happening with the spoons.
During the season of Advent, we sometimes get
all caught up with the stress of buying gifts and
decorating and cards, etc., and we loose sight of
what Christmas is all about.
___
I would compare the game of spoons to the season of Advent
because in both the game and the season you have to be
aware of what is going on around you and be ready to act,
whether that is grabbing a spoon or doing charity work or
going to Penance for your faith.
___
| The game of spoons could be compared to the season of Advent through how as there are less and less spoons in the game the closer you are to winning. This is comparable to how as the candles on an Advent Wreath burn lower and lower the closer you are to Christmas. ___ |
| I would compare the game of spoons to the season of Advent because, as you continue to play the game of spoons, there are less and less spoons as you are getting closer to winning. In addition, during advent as you light the candles every night the size of them get smaller and smaller, as you are closer to the birth of Jesus. In both events, you can see how you proceed along the journey of winning, and celebrating the birth of Jesus. Overalll, I think the game of spoons and the season of Advent are very similar. ___
